Brief Bio:

Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Shashikala Gurpur, with an illustrious career spanning over 33 years in teaching, research and industry, has been with SLSP since 2007 as the Director of Symbiosis Law School and Dean of the faculty of law, SIU. She is a distinguished academician and orator, national merit scholar, University topper in LLM, holds PhD in international law and taught law in NLSUI, Manipal University and National University of Ireland. In March 2024, she received the Distinguished Woman Achiever Award from the Society of Indian Law Firm (SILF). She was featured amongst the illustrious 100 women personalities in the book ‘The Phenomenal She” launched by the Indian National Bar Association. She is a former Member of Law Commission of India, National Judicial Academy and Bar Council of India and was listed among 100 legal luminaries of India in 2016 by LexisNexis. Dr. Shashikala Gurpur has been conferred the Annual Kittur Rani Chennamma Award,2018-19, by the Government of Karnataka for her excellent achievement in the field of education and contribution to women empowerment.

Dr Gurpur has more than 106 publications and presented more than 335 invited lectures, workshops on Gender literacy, Human rights, Media literacy and seminars across India, Thailand, US, UK, Ireland, Germany, Australia, Canada and UAE. She is a pioneer of EU Legal Studies in India.

She is a member of the Sector Specific Group for "Digital and Creative Economy (DCE) in Government of India, Ministry of Education Department of Higher Education. She is also a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the WBNUJS, a member of the Academic Council at MNLU, Aurangabad, a resource person at NJA, Bhopal and a PhD referee to many NLUs, JNU Delhi, Mumbai and many state universities. She has been awarded with the most coveted professional achievement “Jean Monnet Chair Professor for EU Climate Justice Law, Governance, Management and Policy (EUC-LAMP)”, co-funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union. She is a team member of global evaluation and accreditation at IALS,

USA. She has guided 15 PhD, 100+ master’s theses and currently she is guiding 7 PhDs. She also leads the SPARC project, 4 EU Grants, NADFM training and MCCIA committee.

Under her leadership, Symbiosis Law School Pune has successfully been ranked among the top 5 in India, achieving robust internationalization, quality academics, and research, which has been replicated in NOIDA, Hyderabad, and Nagpur.

Brief Bio:

Prof. (Dr.) Bindu Samuel Ronald has 23 years of work experience and has been working with Symbiosis Law School, Pune since 2007. She is a Professor of Law and previously served as the Deputy Director of Symbiosis Law School, Pune for nearly a decade. Since August 2021, she has been the Deputy Head of Symbiosis Centre for Advanced Legal Studies and Research (SCALSAR). Before joining Symbiosis Law School, Pune she taught at West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata. Her Areas of expertise include Company Law, International Trade Law, Competition Law, Mergers and Acquisitions, Marine and Shipping Law, Contract Law.

She has numerous research publications, including SCOPUS and WoS, and is the co-author of ‘Manual of Maharashtra Laws (Vol 4-19)’ and Bombay Stamp Act. She has participated in various workshops, seminars, and conferences across India as well as in Cardiff, Germany, Singapore, Bulgaria, Italy, Vietnam, Sweden, Singapore & Australia. She has also presented papers at various national and international conferences. At Symbiosis International University, she serves as a research guide, having supervised 6 students to their PhDs, and she currently mentors 8 Ph.D. candidates. Additionally, she has been invited as a PhD examiner at various universities.

She received the Erasmus Mundus Grant, through which she taught 2 courses at the Department of German, European and International and Commercial Law at Leibniz Universitat, Hannover, Germany. She has also participated in 2 EU-sponsored projects. Dr. Ronald’s additional research experience includes involvement in a UNDP project, project on Plantation Labour Act and Land legislations affecting Tea Gardens in India for the Tea Board of India and on the Takeover Code for ITC Ltd. Currently, she serves as the Module Leader for the prestigious Jean Monnet Module on ‘Legal Aspects of Doing Business in EU’ – a grant by the European Commission.

Presently, she is a member of the Board of Studies at Sai University Tamil Nadu, Garware College of Commerce and Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Member Doctoral Research Committee- MNLU Mumbai, Research and Recognition Committee, SPPU. She is currently on the Academic Council of Symbiosis International (Deemed University).

Brief Bio:

Dr. Atmaram F. Shelke is working as an Associate Professor at Symbiosis Law School, Pune ( a constituent of Symbiosis International (Deemed University). He has been awarded two gold medals for achieving first position in LL.M. at Symbiosis International University, Pune (India). His Ph.D. research focused on Intellectual Property Rights Volition in Cyberspace. Dr. Shelke specialises in IPR Violation in Cyberspace, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law and Research Methodology. The fields of his research interest are IPR Violation in Cyberspace, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law, Criminal Law.

He participateed in ‘DAAD –New Passage to Indian Programme’ in Germany from 2nd to 14th May, 2014, Bulgaria under EURASIA project in December, 2018 and under EURASIA project in Sept., 2019. With over 14 years of teaching experience, he has instructed students in BA/BBA LL.B. (Hons.), Master's degree programs, Ph.D. coursework, and EU Value Added Courses such as E-Justice in the EU and Data Protection and Data Privacy in the EU. He has also been involved in teaching European students visiting India under the umbrella of Symbiosis International (Deemed University).

Dr. Atmaram Shelke is regularly invited to review articles of Journal of Intellectual Property Rights (JIPR); Christ University Law Journal (CULJ), ISSN 2278-4322 and International Invention Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences (IIJMMS).

He has contributed to the ‘Project on Indian Penal Code’ sponsored by Shri. Ram Jethmalani, Sr. Advocate, Supreme Court of India; project on ‘Critique on Indian Legal Framework for Addressing Sexual Abuse, Exploitation and Trafficking of Children (Special focus on male child)’; a project on problems of foreign prisoners in Pune; project on legal aid with City University of New York. Additionally, he worked as a co-investigator on ‘Report on Transformation of the Criminal Justice System in India’ submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India in April, 2020; worked as a member of committee on recommendations on Digital Courts Vision & Roadmap (Phase III of the e-courts Projects) in May, 2021. He also guided 13 projects on various aspects of the criminal justice system with CID, Pune. He has more than 20 publications on his account.

He worked as a member of the outcome report of Round Table Discussion on “Draft Guidelines for Conducting Preliminary Assessment under Section 15 of the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Act, 2015” organised by SLS, Pune in January, 2023, report has been submitted to NCPCR.


Previously, he served as the Deputy Director (Administration) at Symbiosis Law School, Pune for 3 years. He has been invited as a resource person to over 40 national and international conferences, programmes, workshops etc.

He has completed Advanced Course in Copyrights and Related Rights (ACCRR- WIPO Academy) in 2008, General Course on Intellectual Property Rights (GIPR-WIPO Academy) in 2008, Diploma in Crop Science (Amaravati University, India) in 2001, Diploma of Library Assist., Library Director, Maharashtra State, 2003 and Certificate Course on Cyber Law and Security (Gujarat National Law School (India)), 2012.

Brief Bio:

Ms. Richa Dwivedi is currently working at Symbiosis Law School, Pune as an assistant professor and is engaged as a member in SCALSAR. Prior to joining Symbiosis in 2019, she has had an experience of working with the Government think Tank in Madhya Pradesh as a research associate. She is UGC NET Qualified and has completed LLM and BA LLB Degree in Constitutional and Administrative Law specialization from reputed institutions. She also has a degree of M.A. in Public Administration from IGNOU. Currently, she is pursuing her Ph.D from Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Pune

She has various publications indexed in SCOPUS indexed Journals. Her Area of research is focused on Constitutional Law, Fiscal Federalism and Policy-related research.

Brief Bio:

Ms. Lasya Vyakaranam has been associated with Symbiosis Law School, Pune, Symbiosis International (Deemed University) as an alumna and gold medallist of the 2009-14 batch and thereafter as a faculty since 2018. With an LL.M degree from ITCILO and University of Turin, Italy, she is the recipient of the Jean Monnet Module on the Legal Environment of Doing Business in EU for AY 2021-24. She is the institute coordinator of the Digital Economy Taxation Network with Wien University of Economics and Business, Vienna. She coordinated a COIL programme on Contract Law in collaboration with 4 Universities from 3 continents. She has 4 SCOPUS publications and several international and national conferences to her credit. She is a Member of the University IQAC since September 2020 and the Quality Improvement Cell Coordinator for SLS-Pune since September 2019. She teaches courses on Maritime and Shipping Law, International Investment Law, International Trade Law and Insurance Law amongst others and has guided 13 LL.M students in their thesis.

Brief Bio:

Dr. Sachchidanand Prasad is currently associated with Symbiosis Centre for Advanced Legal Studies and Research at Symbiosis Law School, Symbiosis International (Deemed University), Pune, as an Assistant Professor responsible for the research activities at SCALSAR.

He completed his PhD in 2020 from the Department of Public Policy Law and Governance, Central University of Rajasthan. He has been working in the field of policy, law, and governance for over 10 years. He was the recipient of National Fellowship for OBC-JRF and SRF during his PhD. He has more than 10 publications in reputed journals/ conferences.

His work focuses on Decentralisation, Governance, Socio-legal studies, grassroots practices, and Customary Laws in India. Dr. Prasad has been associated with SCALSAR, SLS, Pune Since August 2022.

Brief Bio:

Abhijit Mitra is currently associated with Symbiosis Centre for Advanced Legal Studies & Research (SCALSAR) at Symbiosis Law School Pune as an Assistant Professor responsible for the research activities at SLS.

He is pursuing his PhD from NUJS, Kolkata. He has completed his BA. LL. B (Hons) from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad and Master in Law, Politics & Society from SLGC, Ambedkar University Delhi. He has qualified for UGC-NET and was a recipient of a Junior Research Fellowship (UGC-JRF). Before pursuing an interdisciplinary academic journey, he has around 3 years of experience working in law chambers at the Supreme Court, Delhi High Court, various tribunals, and also at Alipore District Court.

His research interests are Law, Technology& Society, New Media, Politics of Development, Sociology of Law, Indigeneity studies and Feminist jurisprudence.
